I’ve been doing 10-12+ hour days of school for almost the last two weeks straight and I came home to this in my room and it’s made my night completely. As a film student, it’s the best treat.
Here are some of my other blogs that I got floating around. Please check them out! Hopefully they’re worth your time.

These are my own personal favourites of the year. Keep in mind there’s a few big films that I still need to see. I fully respect your opinion on which you think was better or worse and would love to hear what you think. I think 2012 has been a real strong year for film, and making this list was super tough.
10. Life of Pi

9. Django Unchained

8. Ruby Sparks

7. Holy Motors

6. Cabin in the Woods

5. Seven Psychopaths

4. Safety Not Guaranteed

3. Beasts of the Southern Wild

2. Moonrise Kingdom

1. The Master

Hope everyone reading has a good and safe new years!

I still have 2-3 more films I need to go catch at the theatre before I can compile the rest of this list. I’m excited to put it together. I already have my number 1 and I don’t think it’s going to change.

I can’t believe I’ve waited this song. Georges Delerue’s score in this is amazing.

Whenever I’d watch filmmaker & writer interviews online, I’d always feel like these 10 minute videos were never enough. I felt like I knew nothing about the people who I admired the most. I wanted to learn more about these filmmakers other than the film they were there to promote.
I’d always see the word “podcast” thrown around and I’d just let it go past me but finally I sat down on iTunes and spent hours looking through them all and I subscribed to a few. It felt like I discovered this oasis of information. There were podcasts that reviewed movies, and had interviews with comedians and film directors and writers. It was incredible. The best part about it, is that they were all about 90 minutes each. It practically felt like I was sitting down at lunch with a new comedian or writer who I’ve never met before.
As an aspiring filmmaker, hearing stories of these filmmakers, comedians and writers who started from the bottom and how long they spent to get where they are now was probably the most inspiring thing to me ever. I learned to tell myself that it will not be easy when I graduate film school and I gotta take any chances I can get because who knows where they can lead to.
Over the last year, I’ve been introduced to so many new comedians and TV/Film writers, listened to stories of my favourite directors and new directors while I discover new films to look out for. Anyone reading this who wants to get into the field of TV, Film, writing, comedy, anything media related PLEASE get into podcasts right now. It’s an overwhelming amount of information that I didn’t think ever existed.
The greatest part about all of this is that it’s completely free. Just go to your iTunes store and click on Podcasts. It’s not just film related podcasts, there are podcasts on literally anything, so go crazy.
If you’re looking to get into them for the new year, here are my personal favourites that I highly recommend you subscribe to these:
There’s my rant, and it’s crazy to think something like this was so life changing on me. I’m more motivated to become a filmmaker than I ever was and hopefully I’m on a podcast someday talking about my story.
